Shiva Panchakshara Stotram (Shiva Mahima)

This Powerful Mantra or devotional Stotra is belongs to Lord Shiva, is the prime deity and The Destroyer among the trinity. Panchakshara Stotra is a divine stotra of lord Shiva. Stotras are a praise of god and it is called as stotras. The Panchakshara literally means "five letters" in Sanskrit and refers to the five holy letters 'Na', 'Ma ','Si','Va', 'Ya'.

This is a holy prayer to Lord Shiva, and is associated with Shiva's Mantra Om Namah Shivay, and Namah Shivaya is also called the Shiva Panchakshari Mantra.

Shiva is the destroyer among the trinity (Brahma, Vishnu & Shiva) and is worshipped as prime deity. The holy stotra chant to worship of Lord Shiva, is made of five letters and is popularly called Panchakshara- “Na, Ma, Si, Va, ya”. In this popular stotra each of these letters is considered as Shiva.

Shiva Panchakshara Stotram

Nagendra-haraya Trilochanaya,
Bhasmanga-ragaya maheshwaraya |
Nityaya shuddhaya digambaraya,
Tasmai “Na” karaya namah shivaya |1||

नागेन्द्रहाराय त्रिलोचनाय,
भस्माङ्गरागाय महेश्वराय |
नित्याय शुद्धाय दिगम्बराय,  
तस्मे 'न' काराय नमः शिवाय |1||

Meaning - My salutations to the letter “Na” , which is Shiva, Who has the King of Snakes as His Garland and, has Three Eyes in his face, Whose Body is Smeared with Sacred Ashes and Who is the Great Lord The supreme God. Who is Eternal, Who is ever pure and who has the Four Directions as His Clothes, Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by letter Na, The first latter of the Panchakshara mantra.


Mandakini salila chandana charchitaya,
Nandyswara pramatha-natha maheshwaraya |
Mandra pushpa bahu pushpa supoojitaya,
Tasmai “Ma” karaya namah shivaya |2||

मन्दकिनीसलिलचन्दन्चर्चिताय,
नन्दीश्वरप्रमथनाथमहेश्वराय ।
मन्दारपुष्पबहुपुष्पसुपुजिताय, 
तस्मै 'म' काराय नमः शिवाय |2||

Meaning - My salutations to the letter “Ma” , which is Shiva, Who is Worshipped with Water of the River Mandakini and Smeared with Sandal Paste, Who is the Lord of Nandi and of the Ghosts and Goblins, the Great Lord, Who is Worshipped with Mandara and Many Other Flowers, Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by latter "Ma", The second latter of the Panchakshara mantra.

Shivaya gouri vadanaabj vinda,
Sooryay dakshadhwara naasakaya |
Shree neelakanthaya vrishadhwajaya,
Tasmai “Si” karaya namah shivaya |3||

शिवाय गोरीवदनाब्जवृन्द,  
सूर्याय दक्षाध्वरनाशकाय |
श्री नीलकण्ठाय वृषध्वजाय, 
तस्मै 'शि' काराय नमः शिवाय |3||

Meaning - My salutations to the letter “Si” , which is Shiva, Who is Auspicious and Who is like the Sun Causing the Lotus-Face of Gauri to Blossom, Who is the Destroyer of the Sacrifice of Daksha, Who has a Blue neck and has a Bull as His Emblem, Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by latter "Si", The third latter of the Panchakshara mantra.

Vasishtha kumbhodhbhava goutmarya,
Munindra devarchita shekharaya |
Chandrarka vaishwanara lochanaya,
Tasmai “Va” karaya namah shivaya |4||

वशिष्ठकुम्भोद्भव गौत्मार्य,
मुनीन्द्रदेवार्चितशेखराय |
चन्द्रार्कवैश्वानरलोचनाय, 
तस्मै 'व' काराय नमः शिवाय |4||

Meaning - My salutations to the letter “Va” , which is Shiva, Who is worshipped by the great respected Sages like Vashistha, Agastya and Gautama and also by the Gods and Who is the Crown of the Universe, Who has the Moon, Sun and Fire as his three eyes, Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by latter "Va", The fourth latter of the Panchakshara mantra.

Yaksha swaroopaya jata dharaya,
Pinaka hastaya sanatanaya,
Divyay devay digambaraya,
Tasmai “Ya” karaya namah shivaya |5||

य (क्ष) ज्ञस्वरूपाय जटाधराय, 
पिनाकहस्ताय सनातनाय |
दिव्याय देवाय दिगम्बराय, 
तस्मै 'य' काराय नमः शिवाय |5||

Meaning - My salutations to the letter “Ya”, which is Shiva, Who is the looking like a demigod and Who has matted Hairs, Who has the bow (Pinak) in His Hand and Who is eternal, Who is Divine, Who is the great god And who wears the directions themselves as dress. Salutations to that Shiva, Who is represented by latter "Ya", The fifth latter of the Panchakshara mantra.

Panchakshara-midam punyam ya: pathechchive Shiva sannidhou |
Shivaloka mavapnoti Shivena saha modate ||

पन्चाक्षरमिदं पुण्यं यः  पठेच्छिवसन्निधौ |
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ||

Meaning - Whoever Recites this Panchakshara hymn (Stotra) in praise of the five letters of Na, Ma, Si, Va, Ya. In front of the lord Shiva, Would go to the world of Shiva and be forever happy with Him.

How to Chant - Before chanting you have to take a proper bath and get into clean clothes, sit in the worship place. Then light a ghee lamp and do attention on lord Shiva.

It has to be chant 5 times on every Monday in front of lord Shiva to get peaceful and successful life with god bliss.
